What do very dark roast coffee beans taste like?

Very dark roast coffee is known for its bold, smoky flavor and full body. As coffee is roasted longer, the bright and fruity notes found in lighter roasts are replaced by deeper flavors such as: * Roasted nuts * Cocoa * Caramelized sugar Depending on the roast profile, some very dark roasts may also have subtle smoky characteristics

Are very dark roast coffee beans stronger than light roast?

Yes, very dark roast coffee is stronger due to its bold, intense flavor. However, “stronger” depends on whether you are referring to flavor, caffeine content, or brew strength. Darker roasted coffee has a bolder body but is not necessarily higher in caffeine.

Does very dark roast coffee have more caffeine?

Not necessarily. In general, the roast type does not change the caffeine content in a big way, especially if you are measuring by weight. The brew method, coffee-to-water ratios, origins, grind size, etc. can all affect the final caffeine content in your cup. At Mayorga, we do not test for caffeine content in our coffee, but you can expect about 95- 110 mg of caffeine per 8 oz cup of coffee.

Is very dark roast coffee more acidic?

No, very dark roast coffee is generally considered to have the least perceived acidity compared to a light roast. The longer roasting process reduces the acidic and bright characteristics you would typically expect from a lighter roast, which has been roasted for the least amount of time and maintains those natural acidity levels. The extended roasting times help result in a smooth, bolder cup

How should I store very dark roast coffee beans?

We recommend storing your beans in an airtight container or bag, away from sunlight, heat, and moisture. A pantry or kitchen counter works just fine!
