Background

Café La Tribu was founded in 2020 by a group of young coffee growers initially named Café Fundadores, aiming to revitalize coffee production through younger plants and promote generational continuity. Producers from nearby regions within the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve soon joined the initiative, sharing a vision of sustainable and organic coffee production.

Café La Tribu was initially established as a nonprofit organization offering technical support and resources to its cooperative members.Through strategic collaboration among cooperatives Fundadores, Reserva 1920, and Kanantatik El Triunfo—representing indigenous Tseltal-speaking communities—Café La Tribu partnered with Mayorga Coffee to directly export high-quality coffee.

Today, Café La Tribu unites 550 coffee producers cultivating 1,800 hectares in the Sierra Madre region, where coffee is the main economic activity. Producers typically live on their farms and focus exclusively on organic coffee cultivation. Despite socioeconomic challenges and high marginalization levels, Café La Tribu aims to engage younger generations, achieve fair trade certification, and ensure sustainable coffee production through unity, cooperation, and environmental responsibility.
