San Juan del Río Coco

Nicaragua

In the lush hills of San Juan del Río Coco, Nicaragua, the 25 de Marzo Cooperative stands as a testament to what can grow when trust, transparency, and shared purpose take root. Formed in 2008 by 32 coffee producers seeking a better, more honest path forward, this cooperative represents the resilience and strength of Nicaragua’s small farming communities

A Mission Takes Root

Purpose-Driven Start

Nicaragua is a country that is near and dear to us in many ways. Martin Mayorga, our founder, was born in Guatemala and raised in Managua, Nicaragua. As a child, Martin would accompany his father to the local market to buy green coffee beans to roast at home. Those early experiences in Nicaragua laid the foundation for what would become Mayorga Coffee, a company built with the purpose of eliminating systemic poverty through the responsible trade of organic foods.

Empowered by Community

Growing Together

Today, the cooperative brings together 105 producers, all of whom follow organic practices. Many joined after years of working with large exporters who offered little support or fairness. With leadership rooted in the same communities, producers here feel seen, supported, and empowered. In 2022, they opened their own collection center—a milestone symbolizing independence and pride for the entire community.

A Partnership in Purpose

Shared Values

At Mayorga, we’re honored to work with the 25 de Marzo Cooperative, producers who lead with integrity, stay grounded in community, and share our commitment to quality and equity. Their coffee reflects not just skill, but a deep respect for the land and one another.
